Superleague Formula Live

Fans of the new Superleague Formula racing events will be glad to know that we'll carry all of the superleague formula action right here on www.watchliveformula1.com. These open-wheel events began in 2008 at Donington, with association football clubs as team sponsors. The superleague season is from May to November, concurrent with F1, and the cars are very similar to Formula One cars, with the same vehicles and engines. The format of the race is a qualification on Saturday and the race on Sunday, with each round worth a million Euros to the drivers. Eleven teams started the season off in 2008, and the 2009 season is expected to have eight.

New in 2009, is the advent of a third 15 minute Super Final, in four of the six Superleague events, that features the top three from the previous two races for the title of Weekend Warrior. Also in 2009, the total purse is expected to increase to 1.3 million Euros. The inaugural season saw Beijing Guoan taking first place with their team, and PSV Eindhoven as runner up. Third place was snagged by AC Milan. The driver for Beijing Guoan was Davide Rigon, an Italian FIA GT Championship driver. PSV Eindhoven's driver was Yelmer Buurman and Robert Doombos drove for third place A.C. Milan.

A total of twenty one football clubs started at least one race in the 2008-2009 Superleague including, Sporting CP, Galatasuray SK, A1 Ain FC, CR Flamengo, RSC Anderlecht, Olympacos FC Basel, SC Corinthians and Atletico Madrid, as well as the three previously mentioned that took first, second and third in the 2008 season. Four drivers that are competing in the Superleague Formula races are notable for also racing in Formula One, including Enrique Bernoldi, Robert Doornbos, Giorgio Pantano and Antonio Pizzonia. One of the Superleague teams have also raced in F1, Zakspeed, from 1985 to 1989.
