Mark Webber Grabs his First Win at the German Grand Prix

Mark WebberIt’s official. Mark Webber has grasped his first F1 victory as he held onto the pole position for the entire duration of the German Grand Prix. Webber drove a smart and excellent race as he overcame what could have been a costly penalty to capture the checkered flag. The win was not only monumental for Webber but was also very important for the entire Red Bull team as they now have a chance to catch Jenson Button for the drivers’ championship.

The Australian driver managed to beat out his team-mate Sebastian Vettel by a definitive 9.2 seconds even after being penalized for bumping Rubens Barrichello off the start. Webber’s screams will ring in the ears of anyone F1 fan that tuned into the German Grand Prix as he was absolutely thrilled with the victory. Webber became the first Australian driver to win a race in the last 28 years.

Felipe Massa captured his first spot on the podium as he finished in third place just ahead of Nico Rosberg of the Williams team. The leader on the season Button only managed to finish in fifth place and lost a bit of his lead on the season. He managed to score a few points and now sits atop of the F1 standings with 68 points while Vettel squeaked into second with 47 points and Webber jumped up to third with 45.5 points.

Fuel rig problems hit both Barrichello and Button down on the day. Barrichello was forced to take an extra pit stop and was none too pleased after the day was over. He was quoted as saying his team forced him to lose the race and that he didn’t want to talk to anyone on his team for at least a couple of days.

All in all the German Grand Prix was an exciting race that muddied the look of the overall F1 standings. The rest of the season should be just as exciting as the Red Bull team tries to take down the big boys who are currently on top.
