That 2007 Czech Republic Grand Prix saw Stoner dominate the all aspects of the race in his Ducati MotoGP bike. He not only won the pole position but he also set the fastest lap before winning. He was followed by the American duo of John Hopkins and Nicky Hayden.

The previous race in the 2008 MotoGP calendar took place in the United States at Laguna Seca. However, in this race while Casey Stoner would once again win the pole position and set the time for the fastest lap, it was Valentino Rossi and his Yamaha that would take the 25 points. Stoner just did come up short, finishing in 2^nd place while fellow Australian Chris Vermeulen finished in 3^rd place with his Suzuki MotoGp bike.

Thanks to that win at Laguna Seca, Rossi remains in first place of the 2008 MotoGP riders' standings with 212 points. Casey Stoner is in 2^nd place with 187 points while the Spaniard Dani Pedrosa is 3^rd with 171. With 6 races to go in the campaign, anything can happen and all 3 riders' maintain a chance of winning title. In the manufacturers' race, Yamaha hold a healthy lead over Honda at 231 points to 198, while Ducati MotoGP are 3^rd at 192.
